Soldotna Woman Accepts Plea Deal in Attempted Murder Case

Posted: March 7, 2013 at 7:29 am

A Soldotna woman, earlier this month, plead guilty to assault in a case from September of 2012.

25-year-old Ayanna Nelson was originally charged with attempted murder and second degree assault from a September 6th assault in Sterling.

As we’ve previously reported, 31-year-old Diana Steger of Soldotna texted her boyfriend, later identified as Edward Matthews,  and made arrangements to pick him up, drive to the laundromat, and talk about their relationship.

Once the vehicle had traveled a short distance from the Matthews’ residence, Nelson who’d had been hiding under a laundry bag in the back seat of the vehicle, grabbed the man around the neck and held a knife to his throat.  Mr. Matthews received three fairly significant cuts to his neck before he was able to run away from the vehicle.

According to court documents, Ms. Nelson’s plea agreement, if she plead guilty to the lesser charge of assault in the third degree, the attempted murder charge would be dropped, and she would face a four-year jail sentence with three-years suspended.

A sentencing date in this case has been set of March 27th.

What a joke, 4 with 3 suspended. She’ll be out with time served, back on the street doing exactly the same crap as before, I’m sure this was all over drugs just like the rest of these people the courts keep giving this joke sentences to.
