Soldotna Students Return For Last Year of Skyview

Today is the first day back to school for local students and for some it will be a bittersweet year as the Soldotna area high schools prepare for big changes.

Dr. Atwater, Superintendent of the local district…

Dr. Atwater: “This is the final year for Skyview and SoHi to operate as independent high schools, beginning next August, August of ’14 we’ll have all of the 10th-12th graders over at Soldotna High School, and then the 9th graders will be at Soldotna Middle School. Those school will not necessarily have the same names, certainly the middle school won’t, and that will be decided this fall.”

The district is currently forming a committee to help decide the future colors, names and mascots for the schools. If you’re interested in applying, you can still apply until 5pm August 28. The district says they’re looking for Kenai Peninsula residents (preferably from Soldotna) who are at least 18 years old and able to attend all meetings.

All applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2013, either online or via a printed application returned to the KPBSD District Office. Successful applicants will be notified no later than September 3, 2013.
