After 30 years at Soldotna Professional Pharmacy, Tom and Lyn Hodel have handed over the business, with a parting gift of sorts from the Soldotna Chamber. The Hodels were given the Pioneer Award at yesterday’s Awards Celebration for being “instrumental in the development of the city.”

Tom Hodel: “This area just has all the comforts that a person needs in a small community, and we’re still only two hours from Anchorage if you need the big city, but just a wonderful environment to raise our family and just met so many wonderful people here.”

The Hodels arrived in Soldotna in 1977 for what Lyn thought would be a one-year adventure. Even so, she arrived at that Quonset¬†hut with tears in her eyes, nervous about their future. Yesterday, Lyn received the award with more tears, but this time there was a smile…

Lyn Hodel: “To get that honor, it just was kind of very humbling and we just appreciated it so much, because we know we’ve worked very hard through the years, but I know there are so many other people that worked just as hard as we do, but we were just honored to get that award this year.”
