Soldotna Man Wanted For $225,000 Pot Haul

A traffic violation on Kobuk Street has  led to a $10,000 arrest warrant for a 44-year-old Soldotna man, after Soldotna Police discovered $225,000 worth of marijuana in the vehicle.

Joey Girves was stopped in the parking lot of Maverick Saloon on June 27th around 11am. SPD interviewed him about the alleged traffic violation, but became suspicious about what was inside the vehicle. Girves was released, but the vehicle was impounded while police obtained a search warrant.

Three days later, June 30, the warrant was secured and police found 50lbs of high grade marijuana in the vehicle. The investigation was then handed over to the Alaska Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit.

Two months later, on August 28, the $10,000 arrest warrant was issued for Joey Girves, for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree. Soldotna Police are asking for public help in finding Girves. To make a tip, call SPD at 262-4455 or Peninsula Crimestoppers at 1-800-478-HALT.
