Soldotna City Council Took First Look at FY’14 Budget Yesterday

The Soldotna City Council held their first budget work session prior to last night’s Council meeting.

The council took roughly an hour and a half of reviews of the draft budget that has been proposed by Soldotna City Manager Mark Dixson and finance Director Melanie Imholte.

Dixson told us that the draft budget, as presentenced to the council yesterday, has slightly over a 4% increase over the previous fiscal year.

Dixson told us that part of the potential increase is mainly made up of wage and salary increases, as well as, the city seeing a 12.2% increase to the city’s health care coverage.

Differed maintenance to various city owned facilities is also in the budget as shown.

Dixson did tell us that the city’s property tax mil rate is unchanged in the current draft budget, and he believes that any potential change to the rate is unlikely at this time.

The council will be holding a second budget work session to continue their review process on May 22nd at 4:30pm.
