Soldotna City Clerk to Retire Effective Today

Soldotna City Clerk Teresa Fahning attended her final city council meeting last night as she is retiring from the office of city clerk effective today.

Fahning: “I am going to be moving down to Arizona, where my daughter, son-in-law, and my husband are waiting for me. I don’t know what else to to say, it’s just time. I’ve put in quite a few years here in Alaska, and my family is all elsewhere, so it’s time to be near my family.”

We also asked what she’ll look back on as highlights during her tenure in the city of Soldotna

Fahning: “We have really accomplished a lot in the nine plus years that I’ve been here, we’ve got a beautiful room downstairs that houses all of the city’s records with beautiful shelving, I know that sounds really boring, but our records were in such a mess, and now its just a wonderful place, you can find things in a few seconds. We’ve computerized so many things, just a lot of projects over the years that we were able to accomplish, it just feels really good.”

Fahning will be staying on with the city as a special assistant to Soldotna City Manager Mark Dixson though March. Former Kenai City Clerk Carol Freas and current Borough Clerk Johni Blankenship both spoke highly of Ms. Fahning during last night’s meeting
