Soldotna Candidate Calls For Lower Taxes, Payment of Debts

Posted: September 18, 2013 at 12:10 pm

Dave Carey is running for Soldotna City Council Seat B against Meggean Bos, and said lowering taxes is his first financial priority…

Carey: “I believe the $20 million surplus, if you can imagine, there’s actually been discussion at the City Council, of using part of the surplus in the stock market. That more money could be earned by investing the surplus in the stock market than the low interest rates that are now available by banks. That is absurd. When government has too much money, they find ways, in my opinion, to waste it. They take risks that they would never take with their own money.”

Carey said he’d like to start a discussion about lowering property taxes, and a winter reduction of gasoline and grocery taxes.

I agree! If they have extra money they will find somewhere to use it. Why don’t they try to help out the seniors and the disabled people with that excess cash? That would be an awesome thing for them to do!
