Setnet Management Continues to be Tied to King Returns

This week, the commercial fisheries office of Fish and Game in Soldotna closed the two first regular setnet fishing periods due to the low numbers of king salmon returning to theKenaiRiver. Fisheries Biologist Pat Shields said that the management plan for the commercial fisheries is very tied to the kings right now…

Shields does expect that the sockeye stocks are expected to build..

Shields did say that there is time in July for things to turn around, and the returns of the next two weeks will determine how the rest of the season goes.
