Second Body Found in Seward

A second body has been recovered in Seward, this time a woman was found in Fourth of July Creek.

Seward Chief of Police Tom Clemons said the body was found Sunday and has been transferred to the State Medical Examiner for identification and an autopsy.

It’s not yet clear if the woman was connected to 51-year-old Patrick Richard, who was found deceased in the Small Boat Harbor on January 18. Richard, an Anchorage resident, had been staying on a boat with 57-year-old¬†Billie Hawke of Palmer, but his body was found in the water when he didn’t board a charter bus back to Anchorage. Hawke hasn’t been seen since that time.

Authorities had been searching all week for his companion, with trained scavenger dogs, divers from Seward Volunteer Fire Department, the Alaska SeaLife Center, Central Emergency Services, and harbor staff.

Chief Clemons said the investigation is still open and stressed that they haven’t yet linked the two deaths.
