Seaton Asks Chenault Not to Touch Fund Earnings

One Kenai Peninsula House Representative is asking another not to touch the Permanent Fund earnings reserve.

Homer Rep. Paul Seaton was one of six majority members to sign a letter to Speaker Mike Chenault which expressed concerns about using the fund to close the state spending gap.

The earnings reserve is one alternative as the House majority and minority continue to disagree over how to reign in state spending over the next year. Democrats want more money for education and labor union agreements before they’ll grant access to Constitutional Budget Reserve. Majority members say the state can’t afford the expenses.

Along with Rep. Seaton, the letter to Speaker Chenault was signed by Reps. Bryce Edgmon, Louise Stutes, Neal Foster, Gabrielle LeDoux, and Jim Colver. All six said they don’t intend to support a vote for using the earnings reserve.
