School’s Out, Graduations Offer Something Unique

Students are breathing a sigh of relief, with today officially the first day of their summer. Teachers are wrapping up today, but administrators still have a full summer schedule. We spoke to Superintendent Dr. Steve Atwater about this busy week…

Dr. Atwater: “They’re great. I’ve been really pleased. I’m going to eight graduations this week, I’ve been to four so far. Everything’s going very well, I’m really pleased with the way the Principals and the schools are arranging the ceremonies, they’re very polished, very good. So, very pleased. 609 graduates this year, and it’s the highlight of the year for me, to see the kids walk across the stage and get their diploma.”

Dr. Atwater said each graduation had something a little unique to offer…

Dr. Atwater: “The one at Homer Flex is very small and personal, just four graduates, and the one at Kenai Alternative was also a standout moment for me, because several of the students have struggled to work within the traditional education setting and they’ve come back and finished school, so I’m very proud of them. I’m very proud of all of our students for getting done with their High School requirements.”
