Local students were watched extra carefully yesterday as an “unidentified” security concern prompted law enforcement officers to alert the School District. That safety watch is continuing today.
Pegge Erkeneff with the District said yesterday there were no changes to school schedules or activities and no lock down.
Erkeneff: “We did have a call from law enforcement this morning notifying the district about a potential safety concern with unidentified schools, given that we just as a precautionary measure we put schools on a little bit of extra safety watch or alert which means everything was normal but we had some extra supervision during recess and activities on school grounds.”
Officers are continuing their investigation today and parents have received phone calls from the District, stating it’s acceptable to keep students at home if that makes a parent more comfortable.
Message: “Law enforcement notified KPBSD about an alleged concern in the Soldotna area concerning unidentified local area schools. Law enforcement is conducting an investigation to determine a level of credibility. There is not a direct threat to any specific KPBSD school at this time. If you as the parent choose to keep your student home because of this, it will be recorded as an excused absence.”
