School District Considers Early Release Days for Students

The local school district is considering an early release day for students once a month. Pegge Erkeneff with KPBSD said the early releases would occur on seven of the school’s nine months, leaving teachers with about 1.5 hours of additional time to work on improvement strategies.

Erkeneff: “So it would either be an early release at the end of the day, or a late start, and that’s time so that our teachers can have a little bit more collaboration, so we would simply have a minimum day once a month, starting next year, and that would allow teachers more time for collaboration.”

Erkeneff said the biggest concern was transportation for students, but the District consulted the transportation department and found there would be no additional cost to change bus routes and times once a month.
