School Board Set to Vote on Greatland Adventure Academy Charter School

At the next meeting of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board, the Board will vote to tentatively approve an application from Greatland Adventure Academy Charter School. Assistant Superintendent Dave Jones said the Charter School is hoping to clear the hurdles in time to open next fall.

Jones: “Folks that want to become a charter school go through a process of getting approved by the local School Board and then it’s forwarded to the state to get state approval.”

The school is still looking for a building, but Jones said they have a lot to offer.

Jones: “The School Board has always said that our district is a district of choice and that we should be able to offer different choices of schools to the people within our district, and they are offering something that isn’t offered in different schools, in an outdoor-related curriculum.”

That vote will take place at the meeting on February 11.
