State Soccer Crowns Champions: SCC Baseball Decides State Qualifiers

The 2014 ASAA State Soccer Championships and the 2014 Southcentral Conference Baseball Championships crowned champions.  Tournament results for both tournaments detailed here.

 

ASAA 2014 State Soccer Championships

The ASAA State Championships for high school soccer closed with the Soldotna Star girls finishing in third place with a Saturday victory over Kenai 2-0.

State Soccer Saturday Results

Girls Championship: South girls 1 – Service 0

Girls 3rd Place: SoHi 2 – Kenai 0

…SoHi scored a first half goal by Kylee Wolfe and a second goal by Oliva Conradi.  Katelynn Kerkvliet recorded a shutout in goal.  The SoHi girls finished third for a third-straight year.

Boys Championship: Colony 3 – Dimond 2

Boys 3rd Place: Homer 1 – South 1 tie

State Soccer Friday Results

South girls 2 – Soldotna 1  South advances to state championship game with 2-1 victory over Stars.  SoHi will play Kenai at 11:30 Saturday at AFS for third place.

Service girls 1 – Kenai 0  The Kardinals fall 1-0 to the Cougars.  Service will play South for the girls title; the Kards play the Stars for third place.

Colony boys 1 – Homer 0     Dimond 3 – South 0   Colony and Dimond play for boys championship Saturday at AFS.

State Soccer First Round Results: Thursday, May 29

NLC #1 Soldotna 3 –  MAC #1 Lathrop 0

The Soldotna Stars girls remained undefeated with an opening round shutout of the MAC champions Lathrop Malemutes.  SoHi Kylee Wolfe and Olivia Conradi scored first half goals; Skylar Shaw added a second half goal for the Stars.

NLC #2 KCHS 2 – NLC #3 Wasilla 0

Cori Holmes scored on a hand-ball penalty kick for Kenai’s first goal and Hannah Drury added an insurance goal as the Kards shutout Wasilla.

Baseball Conference Championships

The 2014 Southcentral Conference Baseball Championships crowned Wasilla as conference tournament champion and Colony earns the runner-up spot; both teams qualifying to the state baseball tournament next week in Sitka.

Wasilla defeats Colony 4-1 on Friday for the Southcentral Conference championship and an automatic berth to the state baseball tournament.  Colony will play in the 2nd place game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

SCC Baseball Saturday Doubleback Results

Semi-Final Game: Kodiak 7 – Palmer 6   Kodiak eliminates Palmer with four unearned runs in the final two innings; Kodiak advances to play Colony .

State Qualifier Game:  Colony 15 – Kodiak 10   Colony uses an 11-run sixth inning to defeat Kodiak 15-10.

SoHi 9 – Homer 5      SoHi advances to 3:00 p.m. Friday game against Kodiak

Palmer 10 – Kenai 9  9 Inn    Kenai eliminated as Palmer scores in bottom of ninth  Palmer advances to play Houston at 3 p.m. Friday

Kodiak 14 – SoHi 2   SoHi eliminated; Kodiak advances to 10:00 a.m. Saturday

Palmer defeated Houston: Palmer advances to play Kodiak Saturday

SoHi 4 – Wasilla 5  Stars leave bases-loaded in seventh inning.

Homer 5  – Houston 6  Houston scores on squeeze bunt in eighth inning.

Kenai 7 – Colony 12

Kodiak 15 – Palmer 2   5 Inning 10-run rule  Kodiak plays at 7:00 p.m.

Softball Regular Season Winds Down: Local Teams Out For State Tournament

The SoHi, Kenai and Skyview girls softball teams will not advance to the state tournament for 2014.

The Homer Mariners clinched the final Northern Lights Conference berth to the ASAA State Small School Softball Championships, joining the Kodiak Bears.

The SoHi girls fell to Homer 3-2 in eight innings on Wednesday, earning Homer the final playoff position.

SoHi defeated Skyview on Thursday 12- 3

Skyview defeated Kenai 10-1 on Friday.
