Today is the first day of fishing on the Russian River. Bobbie Jo Skibo, of the Chugach National Forest, highlighted the area available for this first day.
A major problem at the Russian River is the collection of fish waste in the river, attracting bears to the river, and creating human/bear confrontations. Skibo says anglers can keep this from happening.
There are a limited number of fish cleaning stations that have been in place for a few years. Anglers who use them need to cut up their fish waste into very small pieces and deposit it into fast-moving waters.
