Runners Claim Mulitple Borough Cross Country Championships

The 2013 Kenai Peninsula Borough Cross Country Running Championships crowned multiple individual and team champions, with runners completing either the 3-kilometer or 5-kilometer courses on the Tsalteshi Trails.

No, there were no wrong turns or mismarked trails; just a difference in distances and desires by the area coaches.  Kenai, event host, along with Homer and Skyview chose to cover the 3K course; while SoHi, Nikiski, Seward raced through the 5K course.

 

3-Kilometer Championship Event

Girls Team and Individual Results

Allie Ostrander completed the 3K course in 10:38 to claim the 3K girls Borough individual title.  The Homer Mariners runners combined for the team title lead by Megan Pitzman, and Aurora Waclawski; as Homer finished 2nd-6th behind Ostrander.

Boys Team and Individual Results

The Kardinal boys placed placed five scoring runners in the top eight for the team Borough championship.  Jonah Theisen and Jordan Theisen lead the Kardinals with a 1-2 finish in the 3-kilometer event.  Pedro Ochoa from Homer and Micah Hilbish, Skyview finished third and fourth.

Girls Team and Individual Results

Choosing the longer, more traditional 5-kilometer course, the Soldotna girls recorded a perfect score of 15 points, finishing in the top seven spots individually.  Olivia Hutching recorded the fastest time with a 19:39; followed by Dani McCormick, Daisy Nelson, Sadie Fox and Emily Werner.

Boys Team and Individual Results

The SoHi boys raced to the team title in the 5K event placing six runners in the top seven.  Seward’s Micheal Marshall recorded the fastest 5K time with a 17:34.  SoHi’s Aaron Swedberg and Levi Micheal lead the Stars to the Borough team title.

 

Tuesday’s Kenai Peninsula Borough Championships usually provide runners their final opportunity to race at the 5-kilometer distance before the Region III Championships, and is usually contested on Saturday.  Saturday, some teams will travel to Homer for a 8-Mile Relay fun run, others will have an off-weekend from competition.
