The 2011 Region III Swimming and Diving Championships, like the regular season, were dominated by the Kodiak Bears; Kodiak claimed both the girls and boys team titles.
Peninsula swimmers made their mark with the Homer Mariners finishing second in the team scoring for girls and boys.
Central Peninsula swimmers were lead by a single, region championship for SoHi’s Christian Carrico. Carrico raced to a victory in the 100 breaststroke and added a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle.
Boys competition results: SoHi placed second in the 200 medley relay and second in the 400 freestyle relay. SoHi’s Dustin Hunter and Joseph Rife placed 4th and 5th in the 200IM and SoHi’s Daniel McElroy placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Sawyer Rickman and Daniel McElroy of SoHi placed third and fifth in the 50 freestyle, and Chase Corona-Cain, fifth in the 100 butterfly. Sawyer added a 4th i n the 100 freestyle.
In the 1M Diving, SoHi’s Luke Rohl and Gaeden Ames placed 5th and 6th and Ehren Richman placed 6th in the 100 backstroke.
Top six place-winners in the girls competition included:
Kenai’s Olivia Pfeifer finishing second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle. SoHi’s Alex Weeks recorded two runner-up finishes, one in the 50 freestyle and one in the 100 freestyle. Kenai’s Chelsea Chess placed fourth in the 100 breastroke; Zoya Hanson placed sixth in the 100 backstroke. In the 100 butterfly, SoHi’s Kaitlyn Groleske, 3rd; Kenai’s Kaitlyn Louthan, 4th; Megan English of SoHi, 5th and Kenai’s Celestina Castro, 6th. Louthan added a fifth in the 50 free and SoHi’s Kaitlyn Groleske placed fourth in the 200 freestyle.

Scratches and replacements must be completed by noon Wednesday, November 2nd.
The state championships will be competed at the Bartlett High School in Anchorage.

Swimming Individual Entries: The conference champion and the next best twelve finals times statewide.
Swimming Relay Entries: The conference champion and the next best four finals times statewide.
Diving Entries: The top two finishers from each conference and the next best eight scores statewide.
