Refuge Worried About Weekend Campfires

With the July 4th weekend getting closer, so do efforts to remind campers to be safe with fires.  Doug Newbould is with the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.  He says unattended campfires are always an issue, especially when they are not discovered until it’s too late.  He said there are not enough campers who know how to put one out completely.

The refuge encourages everyone to use the enclosed fire rings.  He said they can be found all over the place.

Newbould says all types of information is available at the Refuge office in Soldotna for campers to make their outing a safe one this holiday weekend.
