Red Cross Rehomes 4 Families

The American Red Cross has found new housing for four families affected by flooding in the K Beach area. A shelter will be opened today at the Kenai National Guard Armory, as the Red Cross says they anticipate other families will be displaced by rising waters.

Anchorage-area volunteers are on standby.

The Red Cross estimates that 40 to 60 homes have been affected by the flooding. Cleanup kits were delivered to homes last weekend, including buckets, brooms, mops, work gloves and other protective gear.

The response came after the Borough last week declared an official emergency. Laura Spano with the Red Cross explained why they weren’t involved earlier…

Spano: “We have a lot of trust in our partners at the Borough, fire departments, and that different thing, and they reach out to us with those imminent needs.”
