The Red Cross Shelter at the National Guard Armory in Kenai was closed yesterday morning, after receiving no overnight visitors.
We previously spoke to Sallie Perkins, a volunteer from Anchorage who traveled down to oversee the operation…
Perkins: “It is just kind of a day by day thing. If people don’t show up by Wednesday or Thursday, we probably won’t keep the shelter open. So we just want people to know that we’re going to be here if they need anything at all from the Red Cross, to come by and see us.”
Red Cross volunteers are still available in the local area. The K-Beach fire station has cleaning kits available for anyone affected.
The State is still considering how to best offer assistance to residents.
