Quit Packs Handed Out For Great American Smokeout

The Great American Smokeout is this Thursday, November 15th. To support those who want to quit smoking, Jennifer Olendorff of the Peninsula Smokefree Partnership said they’re handing out free quit packs at three Peninsula locations.

Olendorff: “From 10 to 3 through Thursday, we’re going to be giving them out at the Peninsula Smokefree Office on 35911 Spur Hwy, Suite 9, next to Ultimate Tan. We’re going to be giving them out at Ninilchik, Traditional Council Building in Ninilchik and at Denaina Health clinic at 416 Frontage Rd.”

Olendorff said it’s difficult to quit smoking and often takes more than one try, so don’t be discouraged.

Olendorff: “It is hard, I’m not going to lie, it is tough, but the State of Alaska has a free tobacco quit line, you call 1800-QUIT-NOW and you will get a nurse counselor on the phone that will do a brief, confidential interview and they will send free nicotine replacement therapy through the mail to you and for 7 days a week 18 hours a day you have the option to call that, that hotline to get quit support during the day when you have a tough time.”
