What should be allowed on land in the city of Kenai? That has been the topic of ongoing worksessions by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The commission has been reviewing the various allowed land uses within the residential zones of the community for the city council, as the council considers changes to the current residential zones. City Planner Marilyn Kebschull said progress has been made; but time is running out for a recommendation to the council, regarding a current ordinance to amend the land use table.

Kebschull says the current land use table for residential areas is pretty open as far as providing for possible uses through conditional use permits in most of the residential zones. She says the commission wants to determine what can, and cannot, be placed within residential areas.

She says people don’t want businesses in the neighborhoods. So, the commission is working from that criteria during this review to determine what should be allowed and should not be allowed in residential zones.
