Properties Acquired by LNG Won’t Affect Assessing

The Alaska LNG Project has now bought over 560 acres of land in Nikiski.

Resident and Realtor Fred Braun said he monitors the properties being sold as well as how much each is sold for.

Braun: “A week ago today[Monday] there was 119 properties that had been purchased by the Alaska LNG folks.”

He became concerned after seeing properties being sold at prices as high as $57,000 an acre as well as just above assessed values.

Braun pursued the question of what those sales would do to Nikiski landowner assessments with the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Assessing department, which told him…

Braun: “They’re viewing this whole project, the Alaska LNG Project, as a stand-alone project, as a specified, particular, specific project and they will not look at the values and look at the sales prices of any of those properties and figure those into any kind of future assessment for the north Kenai residents.”
