Projected High Tides Leading to Planned Beach Closures in Kenai

The City of Kenai announced over the weekend that city crews will be closing the North and South beaches from midnight to 8:00am this coming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday due to extremely high tides.

Kenai City Manager Rick Koch told us that early Sunday morning Kenai temporary enforcement officers had to wake people in their tents and direct them to move to higher ground. City crews planned the beach closures with the belief that it’s going to be markedly worse beginning with the Tuesday morning high tide.

Koch said that parking permits and camping permits will be honored at the City of Kenai Little League Fields and City Kenai Softball Fields & Park Strip as alternative camping and parking areas. The city says that only tent camping will be allowed on the little league fields and parkstrip.
