Parnell Requesting Federal Fisheries Disaster Relief

Governor Sean Parnell sent a letter today requesting federal disaster relief for the fisheries of the upper Cook Inlet under the federal Magnuson-Stevens Act. We spoke to House Speaker Mike Chenault who’s been working with the governor on this issue..

 

Governor Parnell said “These fisheries are economic drivers for the local and regional economy, providing direct and indirect jobs, income to families, bringing in tens of thousands of visitors, and supporting local businesses. Alaskans suffered substantial losses as a direct result of the decline of the Chinook salmon runs.
