President Expected to Ban Some Drilling Off Alaska Coast

Today, at Andrews Air Force Base, President Barack Obama plans to announce that the government will allow oil drilling 50 miles off Virginia’s shoreline but will reject drilling sites in Bristol Bay.  The Associated Press reports that he is expected to announce cancellation of the proposed Bristol Bay oil leases.  Officials say in the speech, President Obama will discuss why he is changing the policy, more than 20 years old that bans most offshore drilling except in the Gulf of Mexico.  The Interior Department is also reversing last year’s decision to open up parts of the Chukchi and Beaufort seas.

    Alaska is being black-balled.
I guess Begich’s letters and his fall-in-line voting didn’t help the state out much.

It’s more than I expected of the president. He did one thing I agree with him on.

  • Bill says:

    What?

Obama is reversing open parts of the seas which means he’s banning the parts of the seas for drilling.

  • Teedah says:

Alaska did not vote for Obama so “to the victor belongs the spoils!”
