The National Weather Service says a powerful fall storm is on its way to Alaska for the weekend. The service says the storm, currently over the Pacific Ocean, will intensify as it moves into the Gulf of Alaska early tomorrow morning. It is expected to reach Kodiak on Friday night and inland over southwest Alaska on Saturday.
The greatest threat from the storm will be very strong winds. Widespread gale to storm force winds are expected across coastal waters, with the possibility of hurricane force winds from the central Gulf of Alaska to the northern gulf coast.
The strongest winds are expected in the Portage Valley, Turnagain Arm, Whittier, Cordova and the rest of Prince William Sound, with strong winds across the rest of the region. Heavy rains are also predicted.
