Personal bio and PHITness philosophy: Darin grew up in the Soldotna area staying active by playing basketball, football and snowboarding. He took this interest in fitness to Colorado State University in the early 90’s where he obtained a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in Wellness Program Management. He interned at the world famous Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas, Texas and has certifications in “Bio mechanics of Strength Training” and “Advanced Physical Fitness Specialist” from the Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research. Darin enjoys running, weight training, snowboarding, hiking, and fishing. Recently, he completed Seward’s 2009 fourth of July Mount Marathon race and is the 2009 Novice Class Alaska State Natural Bodybuilding Champion. I have truly found what I love to do for a living. Having the opportunity to help others improve their health and lives through exercise is something that I never take for granted. I look at exercise as preventative medicine. The evidence and medical research is overwhelming and continues to show that exercise and proper nutrition will reduce your risk of just about every ailment known to man. Despite all that information, it still amazes me that our country is more overweight and out of shape now than ever before with our children showing the highest increase in weight gain and health risks. It’s not enough just to know we need to eat better and exercise more. If it were, we would all be fit and healthy. You must also have the spirit or drive to a healthier life style and the strength of mind to follow through. Exercise is a combined effort of your mind, body and spirit. Addressing these three components will enhance your weight loss and is the key that unlocks how you can once and for all take charge of your mind, your body, and your life so you can find true health, happiness, and peace. My Phat to Fit program gets to the center of people’s motivation, the place that nine times out of ten stops people from truly being successful at getting fit, losing weight, and keeping it off in a healthy way. To live well in the future, we have to consider fitness today. It’s never too late to start.
