With just one week before the annual PFD amount is announced, many are predicting a slightly smaller check than 2012, which was already the smallest figure since 2005.
Poor results in 2009 continue to lower the dividends, but this will be the last year that the Fund’s first loss will be included in the calculations.
However, the KSRM News Department official PFD prediction is: $933.05.
Despite the negative forecast, the charitable Pick.Click.Give program tied to the dividends said they received a record number of contributors. 26,093 Alaskans pledged $2.5 million this year to Alaska nonprofit organizations.
The program offered an incentive this year, with a $5,000 bonus for the three charities who showed the most growth in pledges. One of those awards went to the Kenai Watershed Forum . Josselyn O’Connor explained…
O’Connor: “We use our Pick Click Give dollars, to support our summer camp. This year we’re receiving $3,900. 66 individuals chose to give to us though Pick Click Give for a total of $3,900, and what that means, next year 26 area kids get to go to summer camp, and just enjoy the outdoors in a week long summer day camp. These children would not normally be able to go to camp, so what we used our Pick Click Give dollars is for a scholarship fund so kids can go to camp.”
PFD checks should be deposited into Alaskan bank accounts Oct. 3
