Today the Pebble Partnership announced its former Chief Executive Officer John Shively will now be the new Chairman of the Board Directors for the Pebble Project and the Partnership will appoint Tom Collier to the position of CEO.

Vice President Mike Heatwole told us more about the implications of the changes.

Heatwole: “Several internal factors take us to this point, and certainly consideration for permitting in the next phase of the project. John has really advanced us to a point where we’re quite close to permitting and again he needs to transition to this role as chairman which allows him to be involved but also allows him to pursue some personal matters.”

Heatwole also said that Collier is no stranger to Alaskan issues and has worked with the oil and gas field for many years.

Some of Collier’s other accomplishments are a 40 year career with a law firm whose specialty was guiding companies through the environmental permitting process and a position as Chief of Staff for the U.S. Department of Interior.

Shively has been the Partnership’s CEO since April 2008 and was instrumental in bringing the Red Dog Mine to reality.
