Parnell to Sign a Suite Gun Rights Bills into Law

Governor Sean Parnell today will sign a package of bills in support of Alaskans’ Second Amendment rights.

Parnell will sign into law, House Bill 24, the Stand Your Ground Bill, as well as, House Bill 83, clarifying that a federal statute, regulation or presidential executive order that is not properly adopted, or is unconstitutional, does not preempt state law, as well as, House Bill 33, clarifying one-handed hunting and utility knives do not qualify as switchblades, will also be signed.

Parnell will also autograph House Bill 69, authored by State House Speaker Mike Chenault of Nikiski,  which makes any federal law that violates the Second Amendment unenforceable in the State of Alaska.

We spoke to the Nikiski Republican, who said although HB69 was significantly less severe when passed compared to the originally introduced legislation, he was glad to see it pass…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “All in all, I think it still sends a statement to the Feds that we were concerned about our 2nd Amendment rights.”
