The Spanish oil company Repsol recently announced discoveries of oil on the North Slope.
Governor Sean Parnell welcomed Repsol’s findings of crude in three test wells drilled last winter at its “Qugurk” unit in the Colville River Delta.
Repsol calls the initial production test, “encouraging” for their future development plans. The company plans to further assess the wells and continue exploration next winter.
Repsol abandoned another well on its Qugurk leases last year after a blowout that sprayed mud on the frozen tundra.
