Panthers Finish Third At State Volleyball

The Skyview Panther volleyball team finished play at the 2013 ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships on Saturday at Chugiak High School.

 

Skyview finished third overall in the double-elimination tournament falling to 2012 state champion Mt. Edgecumbe, three games to one.  Skyview dropped games one and two 25-21 and 25-21; won game three 25-20 and fell 25-20 in game four.

Grace Christian wins 3A State Volleyball Championship with victory over Mt. Edgecumbe in three games.

 

Saturday’s Results

The Panthers defeated Hutchison 3-1 to advance to the third-place game against Mt. Edgecumbe at noon Saturday.

 

Friday’s Results

The Panthers defeated Anchorage Christian School three games to one, remaining alive in the double-elimination format tournament.  Skyview lost game one 26-24; then rallied to win three straight games 25-21, 25-12, and 25-9.

Skyview advances to play on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. against the winner of the Monroe vs Hutchison game (Friday @ 5 pm).  The loser is eliminated; the winner advances to the third place game and a chance to advance to the championship game.

Skyview will need four wins on Saturday to earn the 3A volleyball state championship.

 

Thursday’s Results

The Panthers defeated Nome 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 in the first round.

Skyview lost to Grace 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, and 25-21 in a winner’s-bracket game.

 

Teams qualifying for the 3A tournament: Skyview, ACS, Grace, Nome, Barrow, Mt. Edgecumbe, Monroe, and Hutchison.

Grace Christian wins 3A State Volleyball Championship with victory over Mt. Edgecumbe in three games.

 

Teams qualifying for the 4A tournament: Dimond, South, Chugiak, Juneau, Kodiak, Palmer, Colony, and West Valley.

South defeated favored Dimond 4A title.
