Panthers Claim Kachemak Conference Wrestling Title: Qualify 12 To State

The Skyview Panthers wrestling team battled to the 2013 Kachemak Conference wrestling team championship on the strength of three individual champions and 12 state qualifiers.  The Nikiski Bulldogs, also with three individual champions, finished 6th in the team scoring.


Kachemak Conference Meet Results: Skyview

Skyview outpointed Houston for the team titles 234.5 to 205.  The Panthers were lead by weight class championships by Austin Craig at 106 pounds, Seth Hutchison at 113 pounds, and Bailey Blumentritt at 145 pounds.

Seth Hutchison was named the Kachemak Conference Outstanding Wrestler and Panther coach Neldon Gardner was awarded the conference Coach of the Year award.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the 1-2-3A ASAA State Wrestling Championships.

Other Panthers qualifying to the upcoming 1-2-3A ASAA State Wrestling Championships include:

Grant Valiquette, 2nd at 126 lbs.; Cajewl Musgrave, 3rd at 170 lbs.; Sage Hill, 2nd at 195 lbs.; Ryan Winter, 3rd at 120 lbs.; Charles Gibbons, 4th at 132 lbs.; Sean Turvin, 3rd at 145 lbs.; Ashton Mahan, 4th at 170 lbs.; Lisha Oftedal, 3rd at 195 lbs.; and Taylor Macrae, 3rd at 285.

The Nikiski Bulldogs were lead by three conference champions; including Nathan Carstens at 126 pounds, Tyler Handley at 138 pounds, and Luke Johnson at 195 pounds.

Other Bulldogs qualifying to the upcoming 1-2-3A ASAA State Wrestling Championships include:

Michael Stangel, 2nd at 152 lbs.; John McCormick, 2nd at 182 lbs.; and Dylan Broussard, 4th at 152 lbs.


Kachemak Conference Meet Results: Other Peninsula Conference Champions

Homer: Jadzia Martin, 98 pounds; Seward: Nick Zweifel, 170 pounds and Howie Hubbard, 285 pounds.


The  1-2-3A ASAA State Wrestling Championships are scheduled for December 13-14 at Anchorage Christian School.
