Ostrander Impresses In Inaugural Run

As the opening event on the new track surface at Kenai Central High School, an invitational mile race was contested and spectators witnessed possibly the fastest mile, or four laps around an alaskan track, in Alaska girls track history.

Allie Ostrander, a Kardinal junior, blazed around the KCHS track in 4:53.  Ostrander’s time is faster than the standing state record in the 1600M of 4:55.89 by Kris Smith in 2003 and the state winning time in 2013 of Audrey Michaelson (Colony) 5:10.94.  Ostrander’s sub-4:56 mile is faster than any state meet time recorded by past Alaskan champions Kikkan Randall (World and Olympic Champion Skier), Kristi Klinnert (Kodiak), Beth Ladd (Homer), Sara Gish (Fairbanks), and Ari Goldstein (SoHi); all continued running in college programs.

Ostrander is the reigning 2013 state cross country running champion for the state of Alaska.
