The open season for the Alaska Pipeline Project between TransCanada and ExxonMobil started today. This open season continues until July 30th. TransCanada says it has provided information to potential shippers in Alaska and Canada on its anticipated engineering design, commercial terms, estimated project costs and timelines. It will be up to the shippers to determine if they have any interest in making commitments to reserve capacity on the pipeline.
The two options being made available for the shippers include the Alaska North Slope to Alberta route and the Alaska North Slope to Valdez route. Both options would provide five delivery points on the pipeline. The Alberta option would provide the opportunity for local natural gas deliveries in Canada. The Gas Treatment Plant and Point Thomson natural gas transmission pipeline are part of both options. The plant would be built on the North Slope. Only one of the two options will advance after results of the open season.
