Just a few days prior to the opening of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Kenai, some residents in the area received a sneak peak of the new store last night.  Wal-Mart associates guided guests through the new store.  As promised by Wal-Mart, the aisles of the store are much wider than Wal-Mart stores from the past.  The store’s manager, Ferdinand Dominic spoke to us briefly about that change.

He said this store is about 10,000 square feet smaller than the Fairbanks Wal-Mart, which is the largest Wal-Mart in the state.  He said this store is significantly larger than the remodels that he has been a part of in the past, including one of the Wal-Mart’s in Anchorage.  We asked him what type of feedback he has received from Kenai.

Dominic said he has almost reached his goal of hiring 300 associates for the store.  He said he would continue to hire associates for the store, as people go back to their seasonal work.  He plans to have a steady work force of 300 for the entire year, with temporary workers hired for the summer season.  He doesn’t want to lay people off doing the leaner winter months.  The grand opening of the new store is at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  The store is expected to be officially open at 8 a.m.
