The Peninsula Oilers opened a four-game homestand against the San Fransisco Seals on Tuesday at Coral Seymouor Memorial Park.
Pitchers and defense dominated the day; as the Peninsula Oilers staff held the San Fransisco Seals hitless for nine innings, before allowing a two-run homerun in the 10th inning for a 2-0 exhibition game victory for the Seals.
Four Oilers pitchers combined for nine innings of scoreless, hitless pitching; while the Oilers offense squandered numerous opportunities. The Oilers stranded 11 base-runners, including leaving bases-loaded in the sixth and eighth innings. Offensively, Mike Weiland reached base safely five times, however never scored. Recent high school graduate and Oilers bullpen catcher Spencer Mochal pitched the tenth and as collared with the loss. The Oilers are building their pitching staff through the exhibition portion of the schedule using five pitchers and limiting innings in the early season.
The Oilers and the San Fransisco Seals return to Coral Seymoour Park on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. game.
