Oilers Sink Bucs 5-2 On Sunday: Take Two of Three In Series

The Peninsula Oilers closed a three-game home series against the Anchorage Bucs on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over the Bucs in Alaska Baseball League play.

The Oilers take two of three from the Bucs in the home series and now prepare for a visit from the league-leading Alaska Goldpanners with the Panners set to play the Oilers in a four games in three days series beginning Tuesday at Coral Seymour Park.


Sunday, Sam Moore pitched the Oilers first complete game of the season allowing only two runs on two hits tossing 101 pitches.  Andre Mercurio was 3 for 4; Kyle Hunt finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI; and Turner Clouse hit 2 for 2 with 2 runs and an RBI.

The teams split the first two games with the Oilers winning game one 5-0 and the Bucs taking Saturday night’s game 5-1 in 10 innings.

On Saturday, the Bucs scored one run in the first inning; the Oilers only run came in the sixth.  Missed opportunities again for the Oilers as they left 12 runners on base.  The Bucs won in the 10th inning.


The Oilers open a three-day, four game series with the Alaska Goldpanners on Tuesday.  Next week on Friday and Saturday the Oilers play in the Showcase Games at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage; Sunday, July 21 is the ABL All-Star Game and Home Run Derby at Mulcahy Park.
