Oil Tax Repeal Reaches Final Weekend

A petition to repeal the Governor’s oil tax law is reaching its final week of signature collection. Members of the group “Vote Yes – Repeal the Giveaway” will be making their major push over the July 4th weekend.

Pat Lavin, petition coordinator said signature gatherers will be hitting Independence Day festivities across the state, especially focusing on Seward, Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage.

The group has until July 13th to gather over 30,000 signatures from registered voters.

Former legislator Ray Metcalfe explained why he’s part of group trying to repeal the oil tax overhaul…

Metcalfe: “This hands the control of the North Slope back totally into the control of the majors. They have a monopoly up there and as long as they have a monopoly up there, us Alaskans are going to come out on the short end of the stick.”
