Oil Field Worker Reported Dead at Job Site Near Chinitna Bay

Yesterday afternoon, at 4:20pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a call from an operations supervisor with SAExploration reporting the death of an employee on a job site near Chinitna Bay. Chinitna Bay is west of Homer  across the Cook Inlet in the Lake Clark National Preserve.

The employee was identified as 26-year-old  Brian Mitvitnikoff of Anchorage.

Troopers from Anchor Point responded to investigate. Investigation revealed Mitvitnikoff died while walking between drilling sites. There were no obvious signs of foul play.

Mitvitnikoff’s remains were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Next of kin were notified.
