The local jobless rate dropped by nearly half a percent last month, and is on par with the statewide rate.
The State Department of Labor and Workforce Development say the October unemployment rate for the Kenai Peninsula Borough stood at 7.1 percent. That compares to 7.5 percent in September, and is lower than last October when the unemployment rate stood at 8.4 percent.
The number of people without jobs on the Kenai Peninsula Borough dropped by 147 jobs between September and October, however, the local workforce shrunk by 399 jobs for the same period.
Last month, state economists say that a total 27,251 were employed in the local area, compared to 27,650 in September.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October is 7.1 percent, lower than September’s revised rate of 7.5 percent and flat when compared to the 7.5 percent rate from October of 2011.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was slightly higher at 7.9 percent for October compared to September’s 7.8 percent.
