Kenai & SoHi Wrestlers Ready For State: NLC Wrestling Championships Qualify Eight

The 2013 ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championship is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 1-2 at Bartlett High School in Anchorage.

 

Six wrestlers representing Kenai High School and Soldotna High School have qualified for the state championships.

 

State qualifiers from Kenai and Soldotna High School include:

Kenai:  Ellery Steffensen, champion at 138 lbs.; Hope Steffensen, champion at 106 lbs.; Dylan Carter, third at 160 lbs.; Aaron Troxell-Tom, fifth at 132 lbs.; Matt Aho, fifth at 160 lbs.; Kyle Hunter, fifth at 170 lbs.

SoHi: John Alexander, third at 285 lbs.; Troy Streiff, fifth at 182 lbs.; Dalton Best, fifth at 220 lbs.

 

The top five wrestlers in each weight class from the NLC tournament advance to the 2013 ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championships.

 

Northern Lights Conference Tournament Recap

The Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Champions, hosted at Palmer High School, crowned individual and team champions and qualified athletes for the upcoming ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championships.

 

The Kenai Kardinals battled to a pair of individual titles with Ellery and Hope Steffensen both winning their respective weight classes.

Ellery Steffensen, a Kardinal sophomore, won his first conference title by dominating the 138-pound weight class.

Hope Steffensen, a senior and four-time conference finalist, won the 106-pound weight class; claiming the title with a championship round pin.  Hope was named the NLC Most Outstanding Wrestler of the wrestling tournament.

 

Other top five finishers from Kenai and Soldotna High School include:

Kenai:  Dylan Carter, third at 160 lbs.; Aaron Troxell-Tom, fifth at 132 lbs.; Matt Aho, fifth at 160 lbs.; Kyle Hunter, fifth at 170 lbs.

The Wasilla Warriors claim the team championship outpointing Colony 368 to 357.5.
