Nikiski residents received a letter detailing a loss of selected services for their Nikiski Post Office.

Rep. Mike Chenault said he has not gotten to speak with anyone yet about the changes but detailed the letter sent to residents.

Rep. Chenault: “The CPU has voluntarily and as a courtesy to the community provided parcel pickup service to the CPS route customers, due to the new post office box services provided at the Nikiski CPU for P.O. Box holders, they can no longer provide the parcel pickup service for the contract delivery service customers. Starting immediately all parcels, certified mail, priority mail express, and postage due, form 3849 are to be picked up at the Kenai Post Office until further notice.”

The letter stated that Nikiski residents are able to reschedule a delivery or have the parcel left if there is no signature required.

Rep. Chenault added that he doesn’t know whether the service cut is due to federal or local issues but is looking into it.

The postmistress at the Nikiski Post Office was unavailable.
