Nikiski Middle-High Student Named 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholar

Annaleah Ernst is one of 141 students nationwide being recognized for academic accomplishments by The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by President Obama.

We spoke with Pegge Erkeneff on how she accomplished this feat.

Erkeneff: With her accomplishments and just academics overall in the arts, and U.S. Secretary Of Education Ernie Duncan said about all the Presidential Scholars, he said “Ernst is one of 141 outstanding American high school seniors that demonstrate outstanding academic achievements, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service and contribution to school and community, and in fact Annaleah was our student school board rep last year and served on the school board last year when she was a junior.

Of the three million students expected to graduate from high school this year, more than 3,800 candidates qualified for the 2013 awards which are determined by prolific performance on the College Board SAT and ACT exams, and or being nominated by Chief State School Officers or the National YoungArts Foundation.
