Nikiski Man Flees Troopers on Foot as Car Burns

A 55-year-old Nikiski man fled on foot while his car burned last Saturday. Troopers report that a blue 1999 Ford car was stopped for an equipment violation at Mile 12 of the Kenai Spur Hwy, just before 3am on June 1st.


The driver was eventually identified as William John Davidson, of Nikiski, but during the stop, he initially several fake identities, in an effort to hide his real name.


Davidson’s drivers license was found to be revoked for DUI, and he was on supervised probation for Felony DUI.


Once Troopers determined the man’s identity, he sped away in the vehicle, leading officers on a 25 mile pursuit through Kenai and into Nikiski. They report speeds reached 100 miles per hour.


In an attempt to stop the chase, Troopers deployed tire deflation devices at Holt Lamplight Rd. Davidson continuing driving for a short distance, but became stuck in a field.


The vehicle reported caught fire and burned as Davidson fled on foot. He was soon captured by Troopers, and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.


Davidson was charged with Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer 1st, Assault 3rd, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 4th, Driving While License Revoked, Making a False Report and Probation Violation.


He was remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility and held with no bail pending arraignment.
