Discussion has continued though out the Borough, following the assembly’s approval of a $13 million loan to the Cities of Homer and Kachemak City to assist with building the natural gas distribution system. During an industry forum recently in Homer, Borough Mayor Mike Navarre outlined the benefits that all borough tax payers will see…

Mayor Navarre: “We’ll have significant economic benefits to the southern peninsula in terms of energy costs, but for the borough, what it means to the borough, the borough has significant savings, we own the hospital down here, the energy savings to the hospital are estimated between $200,000 and $400,000  a year. For the five-schools that would access the gas here, there would be perhaps, $1 million saving in school district budget. The school district is funded significant part by the Kenai Peninsula Borough.”

  1. And so that’s not worth going beyond the authority under Title 29 Second Class Boro!!! The gas line will and can be built by Enstar without the boro being a competition for our licensed banks…The local Banks said that they will finance Enstar and Enstar can get a loan for this project seening that they will own the gasline afterwords…STOP THE CORPORATE WELFARE…
