U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski is splitting with Senate Republican leadership on the question of raising the federal debt limit.
Murkowski, last week, said that spending cuts are crucial, but should not be tied to the debt ceiling debate.
The State’s Senior Senator is the first republican to openly oppose the strategy of withholding votes to raise the debt limit, however, Murkowski says that most of her senate colleagues believe that doing so would harm the perception of the country.
Tuesday, Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine also acknowledged that the debt ceiling will have to be raised.
