Murkowski Chastises Senate Over Unemployment Benefits

Posted: January 15, 2014 at 9:42 am

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski chastised the U.S. Senate yesterday as they failed to agree on long term unemployment benefits…

Sen. Murkowski(R-AK): “There are people who are hurting out there, we recognize that. We recognize that we have a long term unemployment compensation program that seriously needs reform. And on the other hand, as Senator Coates has noted, we’ve got a Senate that needs a little bit of help here, a little bit of reform when it comes to a viable, meaningful amendment process.”

The benefits expired on December 28, and Senators are yet to agree on how to fund an extension. Senator Murkowski’s office says she won’t support a “blank check” proposal, which extends benefits without finding a way to pay for them.
